Quick Tour (Data Entry)

Now that you know exactly how to navigate AVCataloger and configure the major interface features, the objective of this tour stop is to show you how easy it is to enter data into AVCataloger. There are six main areas in AVCataloger, five of which are identical as far as the data entry goes and the sixth, the Loan Log, is slightly different as the data is organized in a rolodex card format. Let's start with the common data entry method.

At the top of the five similar entry areas (Music, Video, Software, Books, Wish List) is a blank row, we call this the "add row." This is where you enter your new data then hit the Enter key on your keyboard to save the data and move it to the organized data below the add row. See Figure 1 below where a new music entry is being made.

As you can also see in Figure 1 (above) there are drop-down lists on several of the columns. These drop-down lists contain commonly used items for the particular column. If the item is not listed, type it in and it will be added to the stored list for use on subsequent entries. After entering the data in each column, hit the TAB key on your keyboard to move to the next column or SHIFT+TAB to move to the previous column. Of course, you can also use your mouse should you want to take your hands off the keyboard.

Notice the bottom of Figure 1, the Track and Image manager windows. These two areas are not available for entry until after the new entry has been saved (hitting enter on the keyboard). Once the entry has been made, you can then highlight the new entry by clicking on it and filling in any related track or image information. If the entry was created using the CDDB internet service, the track information will be entered for you automatically.

The Loan Log is slightly different in that it has a card style appearance vice the spreadsheet style look as seen in Figure 1. To enter new data into the Loan Log, click the far left button on the main toolbar "New Loan Entry" and you will see a new card appear, ready for completion as seen in Figure 2 below.

Data entry is very simple and very fast, helping you get your data organized in a minimum amount of time. The next stop in this quick tour is showing you the options available for printing and print preview. Click the link below to move to the next stop in this tour.
