Quick Tour (CDDB)

The CDDB area within AVCataloger provides a unique way of cataloging your music CD collection. Whether to just get more information on your CDs or to automatically record extensive details about each CD, the CDDB service is a free service integrated into AVCataloger for your use. Let's go over the fundamentals of how to use the CDDB service at this time.

Figure 1 shows the basic look and feel of the CDDB data entry area. To scan a Music CD, place the CD in your CD-ROM and click the SCAN CD-ROM button on the left of the CDDB Toolbar. If you are not subscribed to the CDDB service, a dialog will appear asking you for a few pieces of information to register with the service. Once registered to the free CDDB service, AVCataloger will quickly download information for your Music CD. Click the Save button on the toolbar to save the details of the CD or click one of the other options on the toolbar for more information, or to submit a CD to the CDDB service, should you find one not included in their database.

To rapidly enter your Music CD collection, AVCataloger has a nifty way of rapidly entering your collection. On the toolbar is a button titled "Rapid Entry." Click this button to put AVCataloger in an automated data entry mode. Before beginning the Rapid Entry mode, load the fields on the top right as these fields are manually entered data that will be saved with each album. Information that can be added are: Date, Store, Price, Location, and Rank. When ready, click the Rapid Entry button and the directions will walk you through the steps of what is about to occur. Rapid Entry will scan the CD in the drive, download the data from the internet, save the data and automatically eject the CD. Place another CD in the drive, close the door and AVCataloger will repeat the process from downloading, saving, then ejecting the CD. Continue this process until your entire collection has been scanned. It's a great way to get your entire CD collection cataloged rapidly and accurately. When finished, click the button on the toolbar that you clicked to initiate the Rapid Entry mode and the process will halt.
