Loan LogThe Loan Log is an area designed for tracking items such as books and videos loaned to friends or any others. The idea behind the Loan Log is a system to keep track of items loaned out and keep contact information on how to get in touch with the person should the item not find its way back after time. A date can be set to remind you of a follow-up, which can be displayed at program startup, and AVCataloger will automatically color the contents of the entry red to identify overdue items. In a storefront scenario, this can be useful for tracking when items will be returned as sorting options can be created with the advanced formatting control.
Making an entry in the Loan Log begins by clicking the New Loan Entry button on the main toolbar. A new Loan Log "card" will be created and is immediately ready for data input. When Loan Log items are returned, click the checkbox "returned" to signify the item has been returned. At that time, once the system is updated by moving to another card or closing the Loan Log, the font will be represented with lines through the text (strikethrough) to show that the item is no longer valid, it has been returned.
To delete a Loan Log item, click the card header and either hit the Delete key on your keyboard or click the Delete "X" on the main toolbar. Once an item is deleted it is no longer recoverable; so be sure this is what you want prior to deleting the item. There are two ways to print the Loan Log. The preferred method is printing directly from the Loan Log entry area as if any custom fields have been created, they will be printable from this area. Click the Print or Print Preview icons on the main toolbar. The second method of printing is from the Reports area, clicking on the Loan Log icon. This is a fixed report and only represents the factory default field layout. There are more options for export and printing as the report engine is much more robust, however, the layout is fixed.
To resize the Loan Log cards, click and drag the dividers that separate the cards. This will allow for resizing of all the cards and will be remembered when returning to the Loan Log in the future. The Loan Log is identical to the Contacts area of Microsoft Outlook. If familiar with Outlook functionality, the features of the Loan Log will be straight forward. Customization of the Loan Log includes all the customization of other areas including colors, sorting, adding custom fields, etc. The only option that is disabled since the Loan Log uses a card interface, is the data cannot be grouped.
