Import Wizard

If you have data in an external file such as Microsoft Excel, Access, or a Palm Pilot data file, AVCataloger can most likely import your data. AVCataloger has a very powerful import wizard that will guide you through the steps to import any data in a TAB (preferred) or Comma Separated Value (CSV) delimited text file.

Figure 1. Import Wizard

Select the file to be imported by clicking the Browse button. If the overwrite mode is set to Append, the data imported will be added to the data already existing in the target storage area. If the Replace Existing Data options is selected, all data in the target area will be purged prior to accomplishing the import. It is recommended to allow the import wizard to backup the data file prior to completing the import, should you not be satisfied with the results you could regress it to the backed up file which was taken just before the data import. Data can be imported into the areas available in the Import To drop down list. When the options have been set, click the Next button and follow the directions at the top of the import wizard.

The secondary step is to check the data as AVCataloger has recognized it. And if the top most row represents the column headers/field names, check the appropriate box that will adjust the data to reflect the layout. Clicking next again will take you to the step where you can define the target columns to receive the data specified. If you want to skip an import of a column, uncheck the check box that tells AVCataloger to import data from the column configured. It is imperative the type of data line up with the data required in the target column. For example, if importing album names, this cannot be stored in a column designed to handle Date type data. AVCataloger will keep a log of import errors, if any, and present them to you at the end of the import process. If the data file is backed up, you can restore it to the point prior to the import and re-attempt the import after the errors reported in the error log have been resolved.

***AVCataloger cannot import both main and track level detail simultaneously.  For example, importing a collection of albums and associated track level detail.  It is recommended to use the CDDB Rapid-Entry feature to re-scan the album collection which will provide much greater detail for your catalog.
