CDDB Data Entry SystemThe CDDB Internet Database system allows for easy cataloguing of your music albums. The system is straight forward and requires free registration with CDDB and an Internet connection. When starting the CDDB area of AVCataloger, you will be prompted to register with CDDB which is required to take advantage of the free online database of music albums.
To initiate a scan of your album, place the music CD in your CD-ROM drive and the Scan CD X (where X is the drive letter of your CD drive) will show ready for use. Click the Scan button on the CDDB toolbar and your music CD will be read and the information sent to CDDB to pull the available album information down to AVCataloger. You can review the information, set custom "user-defined" field information on the top right portion and then click the Save icon to commit the information, including track details to AVCataloger.
To the left of each field is a checkbox. This checkbox signifies you want to save this data to AVCataloger when the Save icon is clicked. If unchecked, this particular information will not be recorded. Options are also available to clean-up the information such as the Notes by stripping commas or hard returns that may be downloaded from CDDB. Stripping commas is useful if you intend to ever export this data to a comma delimited data file for use in other programs, such as Microsoft Excel. Hard Returns clean up the data so you don't get multiple lines per entry on a report unnecessarily.
If you have a lot of CD's to get information on, use the Rapid Entry system which will initiate an automated process of reading and ejecting your CD's allowing for a quick method of scanning in your entire album collection. Read the help topic on Rapid Entry to learn more. If you would like to take advantage of AVCataloger's automated indexing system, read the help topic on Auto-Indexing to learn more on this subject.
